Biography of Stand up Comedian Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan is an accomplished British actor, producer, writer, director composer and comedian. He is best known for developing detailed and distinctive personalities on television and in his stand-up routine.

One of Steve Coogan’s most famous characters is “Alan Partridge”, a personality that was first created on the radio program “On The Hour”, and later used in the TV program “The Day Today”, the talk show “Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Alan Partridge”, the sitcom “I’m Alan Partridge”, and an Alan Partridge movie that is unreleased. Other well-known characters of Steve Coogan’s are “Paul Calf”, who uses the trademark saying “Bag of shite.”, as well as Tommy Saxondale”, “Duncan Thicket”, and “Tony Ferrino”. The characters of Alan Partridge and other personalities are currently being performed in his 2008 stand-up comedy tour, “Steve Coogan is Alan Partridge and other less successful characters”.

Steven Coogan continues to do voice-over work, having participated in the cartoon series “I Am Not An Animal”, the comedy “Combat Sheep”, the character “Robbie the Reindeer” on Christmas specials, and the BBC Radio 4 program “Nebulous”. Steve Coogan himself has made appearances on a variety of television programs, including the role of a pilot in the “Little Britain” Christmas special, a guest appearance as a psychiatrist on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (2007), and a lead role in “Sunshine” (2008).

Coogan has been both in front of and behind the camera in a variety of films, with roles in “24 Hour Party People”, “Around the World in 80 Days”, “Coffee & Cigarettes”, “Marie Antoinette”, “Night at the Museum”, “Hamlet 2”, “Tropic Thunder”, and a cameo in “Hot Fuzz”. Upcoming movie projects for Steve Coogan include the 2009 film “Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian”, and a movie chronicling the life of Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards. With his production company Baby Cow Productions, Steve Coogan has produced shows including “The Might Boosh”, “Nighty Night”, “Marion and Geoff”, and “Human Remains”.

Currently, Steve Coogan is developing “Where Are the Joneses”, a sitcom which is based on audience participation and broadcasts daily online. Throughout the course of his career, Steve Coogan has earned several nominations and awards for his work, including winning the British Comedy award, the BAFTA TV award, and the South Bank Show award. “The Observer” gave Steve Coogan a spot in their top 50 British comedians in 2003.
